GET INVOLVED! Offering a wide range of programs geared towards both youth and adult education, Garfield Park Conservatory and Sunken Garden provides a unique setting for engaged learning. Read below to learn up to date information on programs, seasonal displays, lecture series, club events and much more! To find out specific info on any of these events call 317.327.7580.

GUIDED CONSERVATORY TOUR

Public Guided Tours - The Garfield Park Master Gardeners will be conducting tours highlighting information about the interesting and unusual plants in the Conservatory. Tours are free with $1 admission to the Conservatory.

Find Your Pleasure in Herbs - Start growing, using and enjoying herbs all year round. Join the Central Indiana Herb Society on the 2nd Saturday of each month for a different herb-related program. Contact the Conservatory for monthly topics. Programs are free, however a $5 donation is suggested to the CIHS for to cover supplies. Registration required. (Ages 14+).

JUNGLE TALES
Ages: 2-5 (with adult), Cost: $3 per session

This popular preschool program returns with a focus on the rainforest and the world around us. Join us for nature-related stories, activities and crafts. Activities may be messy or involve going outdoors, so dress appropriately. This program fills up fast and pre-registration is required, SO REGISTER TODAY! Bring your preschooler to this program with a focus on the natural world around us. Join us for a different nature-related story, activity and craft each month.

GARDEN STORIES

Garden Stories - Thursdays in July, 2-3pm FREE - Bring a blanket or lawn chair and relax in the shade while enjoying a story show-and-tell in the Garden. Ages 3-12

YOUTH GARDENING

Junior Gardener Club - Second Saturdays, 1-2pm FREE -The Garden Club is back! Join us each month (except for December) for a fun garden lesson and activity. Come to one, or come to all! Come out to the Children’s Garden each month for a fun-filled garden lesson and activity. No “green thumbs” required. The Club will meet in the Conservatory in cases of inclement weather. Please pre-register for this exciting program by calling 327-7580, as spots are limited:

MAY EVENTS

Stepping Stone Workshop - May 1, 10:30am - 12pm, $7/participant - Registration fro this event is full. Everyone will enjoy creating a decorative stepping stone, just in time for Mother’s Day and springtime gardening! All supplies will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own decorations. Stones must be left to dry and can be picked up later. Registration required by April 29th. (Ages 3+).

Celebrate Urban Birds! - May 8, 2:30pm - Join the Indiana Young Birders Club and help count the birds near the conservatory. This information will be used by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology to help monitor bird populations. We will also be giving away a Kaufman Field Guide to Birds of North America!

Tea party in the Sunken Garden - Sunday, May 9, 1-2pm, $4 - Let's go back in time and celebrate our park's history and enjoy a lovely afternoon tea. Garfield Park started as a race track, so feel free to wear your fanciest hat and join us. Bring your mother or daughter and celebrate Mother's day with us. Registration required. 317-327-7580.

Paper Jam - Saturday, May 15 1-4pm, FREE - Come to Garfield Park and learn how to fold, cut and make paper- and even make it soar though the air! You can make and fly paper airplanes and kites at the Burrello Family Center, make "plantable paper" at the Conservatory, and study the art of paper folding and paper cutting at the Arts Center. You can make paper instruments and jam along with live music at the Arts Center. All ages.

Master Gardener Plant Sale - May 15, 9am - 12pm, FREE - This is not just a sale! In addition to vegetable, annual and perennial plants for sale, the Master Gardeners will also be on hand to give advice and answer all of your gardening questions.



 

JUNE EVENTS

Bonsai Show - 5-Jun & 6-Jun, 10am-5pm, $1 admission - Join the Indianapolis Bonsai Club as they display a number of different bonsai plants. Plants will also be available for sale. Members will be on hand to answer questions.

Rose Show - June 12, 12pm-5pm $1 admission - The Indianapolis Rose Society will present a stunning show of many different rose varieties. Society members will also be on hand, so bring your questions!

Backyard Butterflies and Bugs Exhibit - June 26-July 11, Show Admission Rates - Fun for the whole family! See a display of live native bugs and butterflies and see how to attract these beneficial creatures to your backyard. $2/adult, $1/seniors and youth, $5/family

Butterfly Gardening - Saturday, June 26 1:30-2:30pm $5 (includes admission)
Enjoy the Backyard Butterfly display and learn more about how you can have your own butterfly garden at home. Learn what plants work best and what other features to consider when attracting these beautiful bugs. Registration required. Ages: 18+

Metamorphosis Monday - Monday, June 28 10:30-11:30am $7/family - Learn all about butterflies and their interesting lifecycle and characteristics. Create a butterfly craft and see live butterflies in our Backyard Butterflies and Bugs display. Ages: 3+


 

JULY EVENTS

Family Scavenger Hunt - Thursdays in July, 3-5pm FREE - Stop by the Conservatory and pick up a Family Scavenger Hunt. This hunt will send you all over the grounds with your eyes peeled. Bring your finished hunt back and receive a prize! All Ages. July 1st, 8th,15th & 22nd.

Backyard Naturalist - Saturday, July 10, 1:30-2:30pm $5 (includes admission for 1 child + adult) - Come learn about the different wildlife that can be found right in your backyard habitat. Afterwards, see live bugs in our Backyard Butterflies and Bugs display. Ages: 6-12

Gate to Gate Run - Saturday, July 17, 9am, REGISTRATION FEE - First annual 5K walk/run through Garfield Park which is being hosted by The Friends of Garfield Park, Inc. For more information including registration please visit: The Friends of Garfield Park, Inc.


AUGUST EVENTS

Music in the Gardens - Saturday, Aug 14, 6pm, FREE - Enjoy live music in the Sunken Garden featuring the Indy Jazz Orchestra.

Tree ID Hike - Saturday, Aug 28, 10:30-11:30am, FREE - Join us for a walk through the park and learn how to identify local trees. Learn how trees are beneficial to humans and all the animals that inhabit them. This would be a great time to start your leaf collection. Ages 5+
