GET INVOLVED! Offering a wide range of programs geared towards both youth and adult education, Garfield Park Conservatory and Sunken Garden provides a unique setting for engaged learning. Read below to learn up to date information on programs, seasonal displays, lecture series, club events and much more!

Girl Scouts

GIRL SCOUTS NATURE PROGRAMS

Our environmental education team has partnered with the Girl Scouts of America to provide rainforest, ecology and conservation programs for your Girl Scouts.

JUNGLE TALES
Ages: 2-5 (with adult), Cost: $3 per session

This popular preschool program returns with a focus on the rainforest and the world around us. Join us for nature-related stories, activities and crafts. Activities may be messy or involve going outdoors, so dress appropriately. This program fills up fast and pre-registration is required, SO REGISTER TODAY! Bring your preschooler to this program with a focus on the natural world around us. Join us for a different nature-related story, activity and craft each month.

FAMILY NATURE DAY

ALL ABOUT HERBS
Ages 18+. $5 Suggested Donation goes towards the Central Indiana Herb Society.

Expand your knowledge about herbs and their uses with the Central Indiana Herb Society. Join other herb enthusiasts and explore a different topic each session. A $5 donation is suggested to support the CIHS.

JANUARY EVENTS

Guided Conservatory Tour - Saturday, January 14, 2:30pm, FREE - Join Southside Master Gardeners as they conduct tours highlighting information about the interesting and unusual plants in the Conservatory.  Age 3+

Plants that Bite Back! – Sunday, January 15, 2-3pm, $2 - This program has been cancelled. We are sorry for any inconveniences.

Neo Natural – January 21-March 18, $3/person, $8/family -The Conservatory presents a unique exhibit of glass art among the plant forms that inspired it. Artists from Anderson University and Ball State University have created glass pieces in response to inspiration from the botanical collection to create a unique exhibit. Preview Party - Friday, January 20 from 6-8 pm ($5). Get a special preview peek of the new exhibit with light refreshments and live music. Click here for more details

Sweets for Your Sweetie – Tuesday, February 14, 7-9pm, $8/person, $15/couple - Celebrate Valentine's Day with treats from the tropics including chocolate and coffee, all while enjoying the candlelit romantic atmosphere of the Conservatory. Reserve your spot by February 13th, 317-327-7580. Age 16+

Jurassic Conservatory – Saturday, February 25, 2-3pm, $4 - Step back in time to explore plants and insects that were living when dinosaurs roamed the Earth! Walk through the Conservatory, as paleontologists, to see the many plants that were food for the dinosaurs, make a dinosaur craft, and unearth a trilobite fossil to take home with you. Registration required by February 23rd. Age 6-12

Reptile and Amphibian Show – Saturday, March 3, 10am-1pm, FREE - Join the Conservatory in welcoming the Hoosier Herpetology Society and their cold-blooded friends. Come and see a variety of different reptiles and amphibians from around the world. All ages.  

Morning Bird Stroll – Saturday, March 10, 8:30-9:30am, $2 - Spring is a great time to look and listen for birds in the park. Join us to see what feathered friends call our park home. Binoculars and field guides will be available, but feel free to bring your own. Registration required 317-327-7580.  Age 3+

Heirloom Seed Starting – Sunday, March 18, 2-3pm, $4 - Time to start getting ready for springtime gardening! Learn more about the different heirloom varieties of popular garden plants and start some seeds to take home. Age 18+

Escape to the Tropics – Friday, March 23, 6-8pm, FREE - Bring the family to enjoy a tropical festival at the Conservatory. Grab your favorite floral shirt and come enjoy crafts, treats, games and more! Learn what life is like for people just like you who live in the tropical rainforests.  All Ages.

Spring Bulb Show – March 30-April 6, $3/person - It's springtime at the Garfield Conservatory! Come see our stunning display of tulips and other spring blooms against the backdrop of our permanent tropical collection. Regular operating hours. (The bulbs will be for sale beginning April 7th at 10 a.m. )

APRIL EVENTS

Spring Bulb Show – March 30-April 6, $3/person - It's springtime at the Garfield Conservatory! Come see our stunning display of tulips and other spring blooms against the backdrop of our permanent tropical collection. Regular operating hours. (The bulbs will be for sale beginning April 7th at 10 a.m. )

Spring Break Craft – Wednesday, April 4, 2-3pm, $4 - Make a cool craft at the Conservatory this spring break! Learn about different animals and make an animal track bandana to take with you on your next hike. Registration required 317-327-7580. Age 5-15

Orchid Show – April 14 & 15, 10am-5pm, $3/person - This weekend, the Garfield Conservatory will be filled with many of displays of blooming orchids from across the Midwest, all competing for awards. Come check out this event presented by the Central Indiana Orchid Society. Vendors will also be available with orchids for sale. Special Show Admission:  $3.00/person or $8/family

MAY EVENTS

Mother's Day Tea Party – Sunday, May 13, 11:30am-12:30pm, $5 - Let's go back in time and celebrate our park's history and enjoy a lovely afternoon tea. Garfield Park started as a race track, so feel free to wear your fanciest hat and join us. Registration required by May 10th. Age 3+

Master Gardener Plant Sale  - Saturday, May 19, 9am-12pm - This is not just a sale! In addition to vegetable, annual and perennial plants for sale, the Master Gardeners will also be on hand to give advice and answer all of your gardening questions. No registration required.
