GET INVOLVED! Offering a wide range of programs geared towards both youth and adult education, Garfield Park Conservatory and Sunken Garden provides a unique setting for engaged learning. Read below to learn up to date information on programs, seasonal displays, lecture series, club events and much more!

Girl Scouts


Our environmental education team has partnered with the Girl Scouts of America to provide rainforest, ecology and conservation programs for your Girl Scouts.

This popular preschool program focuses on the rain forest and our local environment. Join us each month for a different nature-related story, activity, and craft. This program fills up fast and pre-registration is required.

Join Master Gardeners as they conduct tours highlighting information about the interesting and unusual plants in the Conservatory.   Tours begin at 2:30pm on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month.

Herbal Harvest
Date: Saturday, August 1       Time: 10-11am       Fee: $5      Ages: 16 and up
In this program presented by the Central Indiana Herb Society, learn about harvesting, drying, and storing herbs for home use. Registration required. Payment will be collected by instructor.

The Buzz about Bees!
Date: Saturday, August 2       Time: 1:30-3:30pm       Fee: Free      Ages: Adult
Meet our volunteer beekeeper and learn all about bees and beekeeping. Take a look at our resident hive and see first-hand out honey is harvested.

Little Green Thumbs
Date: Thursday, August 6       Time: 10-11am       Fee: $5      Ages: 2-6
Bring your little gardener to get their hands dirty in the Children's Garden. Participants will have the opportunity to plant, care for, and harvest crops in the Garden. Registration required.

Early Morning Meditation
Date: Saturday, August 8       Time: 8:30-9:30am       Fee: 10      Ages:Adult
Join us for a tranquil morning in the tropical Conservatory. Program will begin with an instructor-led meditation and breathing exercise and end with free quite time for finding restorative peace. Registration required.

Bug Hunt!
Date: Saturday, August 15       Time: 10-11a,       Fee:$4      Ages:2-8
Worms, snails, beetles, and butterflies, oh my! There are so many bugs living in the Children’s Garden and all around us! Join as we go in search of these cool critters and learn interesting facts about them.

Backyard Nature: Birds
Date: Monday, August 17       Time: 10-11am       Fee: $4      Ages:2-8
Fly on over to the conservatory and join us as we discover our feather friends through books, games, crafts and bird watching in the Children’s Garden.

Little Green Thumbs
Date: Thursday, September 3       Time: 10-11am       Fee: $5      Ages: 2-6

Jungle Tales

Bring your preschooler to this program with a focus on the natural world. Join us for a different nature-related story, activity and craft each month. Registration required.

Garden Groceries
Date: Saturday, September 12       Time: 12-1pm       Fee: Free      Ages: All
Come enjoy the fruits of our labor! The summer’s harvest should be ripe and ready for picking. Stop by the Children’s Garden and learn about the benefits of eating your fruits and vegetables and have the chance pick some fresh produce to take home! No registration required.

Leaf Hoppers
Date: Wednesday, September 23       Time: 10-11am       Fee: $4      Ages: 2-5
Join us for all kinds of leafy fun! We’ll do a leaf craft and find all different kinds of leaves – and, of course, find out why leaves are so important to plants! Registration required.

House Plants 101
Date: Saturday, September 26       Time: 1:30-2:30pm,       Fee:$6      Ages:16+
WLearn the basics of how to transition your house plants from outdoors to inside for the winter. We will also learn basic care for many varieties of house plants from spider plants to orchids. Registration required.

Visitor Appreciation Day
Date: Saturday, October 3       Time: 10am-5pm       Fee: FREE!      Ages: All
In appreciation of all of our wonderful visitors and supporters, admission to the Conservatory is FREE on this day. Enjoy our unique tropical experience, including waterfalls, orchids, animals and more – all for free!

Early Morning Photography
Date: Saturday, October 17       Time: 8:00-10:00am       Fee: $5      Ages:Adult
Don’t miss this opportunity to practice your photography skills before the Conservatory opens. Make sure to register, as space is limited.

Autumn Arts and Crafts
Date: Saturday, October 24       Time: 2-3pm       Fee: $10      Ages:5 and up
Autumn is a great time to gather natural objects and turn them into art for around the home. Come make fall crafts with us. Registration required.

Creepy Creatures
Date: Monday, October 26       Time: 10-11am       Fee: $4      Ages: 2-5
Put on your Halloween costume and come learn about some creepy and not-so-creepy creatures! Have fun meeting live critters and doing a craft. Registration required.

Haunted Conservatory
Date: Wednesday-Thursday, October 28-29       Time: 5:30-8:30 PM,       Fee:$2      Ages:All Ages
Get spooked as you walk through this year’s Haunted Conservatory! It will be less scary from 5:30-7 p.m., and the real haunting begins at 7 p.m. (recommended for ages 8+). Make sure to check out other fun (and free!) events at the Arts Center and Family Center as a part of Ghoulish Garfield!
