Jungle Tales - Self-Guided

Dates: Tuesday, August 11

Time: 10:00-11:00 am

Fee: $4 per child  Ages: 2-5

This summer, try out our modified program for a fun, self-guided activity for little ones. Registered participants can pick up a packet that includes craft and activity materials to enjoy while you’re in the park or anytime on your own. Program will also include a digital recording of the month’s story emailed the day prior to the program. Packets will be distributed in a drive-up setting during program time. Content will be geared towards ages 2-5, but all children are welcome to participate. Please register 1 spot for each child that needs a packet.

Little Green Thumbs

Date: Wednesday, August 19

Time: 10:00-11:00 am

Fee: $5 per child  Ages: 2-5

Join us as we get to gardening in Blake’s Garden!  Young ones will learn about gardening and have the chance to help plant, grow and harvest in our vegetable garden. There will also be a story, craft and time to explore. Program will be held outside and participants will be asked to maintain appropriate social distance.  Registration required.

 

Garfield Bird Walk

Date: Saturday, August 15

Time: 8:00-9:30 am

Fee: $5 per person  Ages: All

Garfield Park, while being an urban park, is also a home to lots of wildlife. Join a park naturalist on a walk through the park in search of birds. Whether you've never been on a bird walk before or consider yourself an expert birder, this is open to all. Registration is required and participants will be asked to maintain appropriate social distance throughout the walk.  Wear appropriate footwear and bring your own binoculars.

In the Garden: Meet a Beekeeper

Date: Sunday, August 2

Time: 2-2:30 pm

Fee: $4 per child  Ages: All

Stop by Blake’s Garden and meet our volunteer beekeeper (from an appropriate social distance). He will be available to talk all about bees and beekeeping. Check out the pollinator garden to see bees and their friends at work. No registration needed. Participants should have a face mask available to use if needed.

Garden Harvest

Date: Thursday, August 6

Time: 6-6:45 pm

Fee: $4 per person  Ages: All

Join our us in Blake’s Garden as we see what ready for harvest. Participants will have the chance to help harvest, meet our resident chickens, and ask questions during this informal gathering. Program will be held outside and participants will be asked to maintain appropriate social distance. Please register, as space is limited. Participants should have a face mask available to use if needed.  All ages, 2 and under are free.

 

Chimney Swift Watch

Date: Friday, August 14

Time: 8:30-9:30 pm

Fee: $6 per person  Ages: All

Join a park naturalist at the Pagoda in Garfield Park for an evening of learning about and observing the Chimney Swift bird colony that lives at the Art Center. Bring your picnic blankets, chairs and snacks and hang out with us as we watch the colony start their summer evening rituals and learn about conservation efforts for these majestic little birds. Program will be held outside and participants will be asked to maintain appropriate social distance. Participants should have a face mask available to use if needed.

 

Take and Explore: Butterflies

Date: Friday, August 22

Time: 11:00-12:00 pm

Fee: $4 per child  Ages: All

We love butterflies and we’ve planted their favorite flowers all over the gardens. Pick up your packet and enjoy a scavenger hunt, craft and more as you explore the gardens on your own. Registration required. Activities are geared for ages 6-9, but all ages are welcome to participate. Each child must be registered to receive a packet.

Garden Harvest Ideas

Date: Saturday, August 29

Time: 2:00-3:00 pm

Fee: $5 per person  Ages: Adult

Join us in Blake’s Garden for a lesson on learning how to use or preserve the bounty from your garden. Topics will include: water bath canning; prepping, cooking and freezing produce; and strategies for ripening and using the very last of your produce. Registration required. Participants are asked practice social distancing and to have a mask available for when this isn't possible.
