Gnome Away from Home Display

Date: Saturday, March 20 - April 11

(closed Sunday, April 4)

Times: Regular Conservatory Hours

Fee: $4 per person  Ages: All

The gnomes are back at the Garfield Park Conservatory! Garden gnomes from far and wide have gathered at the tropical Conservatory for spring break! Come see this year’s display, “Gnomes on the Big Screen” as gnomes put their spin on scenes from classic movies. The Conservatory is the perfect tropical stay-cation!

 

All visitors must purchase timed-tickets in advance. This will help limit capacity as the health and safety of staff and patrons is a priority. Admissions will be available for purchase online or by phone beginning Friday, February 26 at 10am.

Make & Take: Wind Chimes - FULL

Date: Saturday, April 10

Time: 2:30 - 3:30 pm

Fee: $10    Ages: 4-10

Have some fun and get your creative juices flowing.  Use all kinds of materials to create a unique wind chime to display this spring!  Fee also includes admission for one adult and registered child to the Conservatory. This program will be outdoors weather permitting or take home. You can choose whichever option suits your needs best. Registration required for program.

Jungle Tales

Dates: Tuesday & Wednesday, April 13 &14

Time: 10:00 - 11:00 am

Fee: $4 per child  Ages: 2-5

Join us for a fun indoor or outdoor program (weather dependent) where preschoolers and kindergarteners learn about the jungle or local nature! This program includes: stories, games, crafts and outdoor exploration. Registration will be capped at 6 children who can attend with one adult each, to allow for social distancing.

Program may be switched to a hybrid, packet pick-up depending on local restrictions.

Take and Explore: FLOWERS

Date: Saturdays in April

Time: 10:00 - 1:00 pm

Fee: $4 per child  Ages: 5-10

Bring the kids to the park to enjoy some time exploring the outdoors and learning about flowers. Packets can be picked up at the Conservatory front desk and activities/crafts can be done throughout the park. Packets will be geared towards ages 5-10, but all ages are welcome to participate. Please register 1 spot for each packet needed. Packets can be picked up anytime during program time/month. One packet for the whole month.

 

Critter Chat

Date: Saturday, April 17

Time: 2:00 - 2:30 pm

Fee: Free, Drop-in  Ages: All

Drop by Blake’s Garden to meet one of our resident critters. No registration needed, however participants will need to practice social distance protocols when visiting the garden.

Orchid Show

Dates: Saturday & Sunday, April 17 & 18

Time: 10:00 am -5:00 pm

Fee: $4 per person (over the age of 2)  Ages: All

Enjoy blooming orchids on display and select orchids for sale from New Vision Orchids. All visitors must purchase a timed-ticket in advance, online or by phone.

Storytime in the Garden

Date: Tuesday, April 27

Time: 10:00 - 10:30 am

Fee: FREE | DROP-IN  Ages: 2-8

Join us in Blake’s Children’s Garden as we learn about nature through a story reading. After the reading children are encouraged to stay and explore the garden. This program is free and open to anyone wishing to attend. The target age range is 2-8 years old.

 

Central Indiana Herb Society: Salad Container Workshop

Date: Saturday, May 1

Times: 10:00 - 11:30 am or 1:00 - 2:30 pm

Fee: $5 per person  Ages: 16 and up

Spring in 2021! It's been a long year without the Garfield Park Workshops, and we've missed you. Learn how to grow a salad garden in containers with members from the Herb Society of Central Indiana in partnership with the Garfield Park Conservatory.

Imagine! You can walk to your patio or yard and snip, pull or pinch your salad herbs, greens and veggies each spring and summer night. We'll show you how. You won't go home empty handed either. We'll send home seeds to get started and handouts that will keep you growing and going all season.

 

Masks are required, and because social distancing will be observed, space is limited.

Gather in the Garden: PLANTING

Date: Saturday, May 8

Time: 2:00 - 3:00 pm

​Join our naturalist as she leads visitors through planting fruits and vegetables in on one of our raised beds. Participants will learn how to sow seeds, transplant plants and will be hands-on in helping to plant one of the raised beds in Blake’s Garden. This program is drop-in, so no registration required.

Gardening Rocks!

Date: Thursday, May 20

Time: 6:00 - 7:00 pm

Fee: $5 per person    Ages: All

Help establish the rock garden in Blake’s Garden. Paint a rock to take home and one to stay in the garden. All supplies will be provided. Bring your imagination. Pre-registration required. Please only register for the number of crafts you wish to complete. If someone is coming, but is not participating in the craft, there is no need to register them.

Bird Walk

Date: Saturday, May 15

Time: 8:30 - 9:30 am

Fee: $5  Ages: 3 and up

 

Garfield Park, while being an urban park, is also a home to lots of wildlife. Join a park naturalist on a walk through the park in search of birds. Whether you've never been on a bird walk before or consider yourself an expert birder, this this event is open to all. Registration is required. Please remember to wear your walking shoes and bring binoculars if you have them.

 

Master Gardener Plant Sale

Date: Saturday, May 15

Time: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Fee: FREE ADMISSION | DROP-IN  Ages: All

 

This is not just a sale!  In addition to annual and perennial plants for sale, the Master Gardeners will also be on hand to give advice and answer all of your gardening questions. Admission to sale is free, plant prices vary.

Little Green Thumbs

Date: Wednesday, May 19

Time: 10:00 – 11:00 am

​Join us as we get to gardening in Blake’s Garden!  Young ones will learn about gardening and have the chance to help plant, grow and harvest in our vegetable garden. There will also be a story, craft and time to explore. Registration required.

 

Butterfly Planters

Date: Saturday, May 22

Time: 2:00-3:00 pm

Fee: $12 per planter      Ages: 4 and up

 

Everyone is welcome to come to this workshop and create a beautiful planter that butterflies will love.  Learn what plants butterflies and caterpillars love and help attract them to your yard.  All materials will be provided.  Registration is required by May 15th.
