Take and Explore: Birds

Date: Saturday, October 3

Time: 11:00-1:00 pm

Fee: $5 per packet  Ages: 5-10

Bring the kids to the park to enjoy some time exploring outside and learning about birds. Packets can be picked up at the Conservatory front desk and activities/crafts can be done throughout the park. Packets will be geared towards ages 5-10, but all ages are welcome to participate. Please register 1 spot for each packet needed. Packets can be picked up anytime during program time.

Garfield Park Bird Walk

Date: Saturday, October 10

Time: 8:00-9:30 am

Fee: $5   Ages: All

Garfield Park, while being an urban park, is also a home to lots of wildlife. Join a park naturalist on a walk through the park in search of birds. Whether you've never been on a bird walk before or consider yourself an expert birder, this is open to all. Registration is required and participants will be asked to maintain appropriate social distance throughout the walk. Please remember to wear your walking shoes and bring binoculars. Bring a mask for when social distancing cannot be achieved.

Jungle Tales - Hybrid

Date: Tuesday, October 13

Time: 10:00-11:00 am

Fee: $4 per child  Ages: 2-5

Try out our modified program for a fun, self-guided activity for little ones. Registered participants can pick up a packet that includes craft and activity materials to enjoy in the park or at home. Program will also include a digital recording of the month’s story emailed the day prior to the program. Packets will be distributed in a drive-up setting during program time.

Coffee and Conservation

Date: Saturday, October 17

Time: 11:00-12:00 pm

Fee: $5 per person  Ages: 16 and up

Join us as we discover the history of coffee and gain a greater appreciation for one of our favorite beverages. Learn more about how coffee can be grown in harmony with the rainforest and protect Indiana native migratory birds. Program attendees will have a chance to see our Conservatory coffee trees. Bring your own coffee. Share what coffee companies/varieties are your favorites! Bring a mask for when social distancing is not possible. The class has been limited to 6 people, so proper social distancing can occur. Registration required.

Critter Chat

Date: Saturday, October 24

Time: 2:00-2:30 pm

Fee: Free | Drop-in  Ages: All

Drop by Blake’s Garden to meet one of our resident critters. No registration needed, however participants will need to practice social distance protocols when visiting the garden.

FULL - Spooky Stroll at Garfield Park - FULL

Date: Thursday, October 29

Time: 5:30-8:30 pm Each session will be 30 minutes.

Fee: $5 per person  Ages: All

Start and End at Corporate Shelter (map to be provided at a later date)
Pre-registration required (please register each individual in your group)


Take a not-so-spooky stroll at Garfield Park with your little monsters this Halloween season. Meet with a family-friendly storyteller outside the Arts Center to begin your guided stroll to the Conservatory, while listening to kid-friendly scary tales. Then, take a self-guided tour through the spooky Conservatory. After your walk through the Conservatory, you will enter the Sunken Garden where the Burrello Family Center will have a socially distanced line for giving out goodies. Don’t forget to pick your pumpkin from the patch and get your take-home pumpkin decorating kit from the Arts Center on your way out the gate.

 

We can’t wait to celebrate Halloween with your family at Garfield Park! Costumes are encouraged; wear comfortable shoes to walk in; dress appropriately for the weather.

Date: Saturday, November 14

Time: 11:00 am-2:00 pm     

Fee: $7 per wreath kit     Ages: Adult

Garfield Park Conservatory's Natural Wreath-making class has always been a huge success, so even in these uncertain times, we are offering again, but as a "Take and Make" class. Your registration will include: a grapevine wreath, an assortment of natural materials, and video with instructions and tips. You will provide the adhesives or floral wire, extra materials to make it your own, and your creativity! You will pick-up your course materials during the specified time, unless other arrangements are made prior. Once you finish your wreath, send us a picture if you wish and we will share it on social media!

Nature is full of inspiration for art! Create your own beautiful holiday wreaths to hang on walls, doors or put on your dining room table as center piece.

Notes: Once registered look for an email to come during the week prior to the event, with a link to the video instructions.

 

Registration is not for an in person class, but for picking up materials to do a wreath at home. If participant cannot come between 11-1 on November 14th, another pick-up time can be scheduled with Conservatory staff.

You will provide the extra adhesives (for added heavier items that won't stick to the wreath otherwise), extra materials to make it your own, and your creativity! You will pick-up your course materials during the specified time, unless other arrangements are made prior. Once you finish your wreath, send us a picture if you wish and we will share it on social media!
