Indianapolis Bonsai Club - Bonsai Show

Dates: Saturday, June 8 & Sunday, June 9

Time: Saturday 10 am - 5 pm | Sunday 1-5 pm

Fee: $6 per person | $14 per family (2 adults max)  Ages: All

Join the Indianapolis Bonsai Club as they showcase their unique bonsai specimens. Club members will be available to answer your questions, and vendors will have plants and supplies available for sale.

Jungle Tales

Date: Tuesday, June 11th, 2024

Time: 10-11 AM

Fee: $6 per child    Ages: 2-5

Bring your preschooler to this program with a focus on the natural world. Join us for a story, activity and craft each month. Registration required. 

Sensory Hike Series: Experience the Conservatory

Date: Friday, June 14th, 2024

Time: 2-3PM

Fee: $6 per person    Ages: All

Join us inside the Conservatory on the first hike of this series! We will take a leisurely stroll inside and use all of our senses to experience the Conservatory in a different way than usual. We’ll smell spicy leaves, touch texturized plants, and see the fruits and flowers that you may have missed. Program fee includes one (1) admission into the Conservatory.

Little Green Thumbs

Date: Thursday, June 20th, 2024

Time: 10-11 AM

Fee: $6 per child    Ages: 2-8

Bring your little gardener to get their hands dirty in the Children's Garden. Participants will have the opportunity to plant, care for, and harvest crops in the Garden. Come to one, or come to all. Registration required.

Fee: FREE | DROP-IN    Ages: All

Drop by Blake’s Garden to meet one of our resident critters. No registration needed. Program will be held in classroom if weather is

Garden Storytime

Date: Friday, June 21st, 2024

Time: 10 AM

Fee: FREE | DROP-IN    Ages: All (Recommended Ages 2-8)

Join us in Blake’s Children’s Garden as we learn about nature through a story reading. After the reading children are encouraged to stay and explore the garden. This program is free and open to anyone wishing to attend. The target age range is 2-8 years old.

Program will be moved into the classroom in case of inclement weather.

 

Meet the New Naturalist

Date: Saturday, June 22nd, 2024

Time: 10am-12pm

Fee: Free     Ages: All

Location: Sunken Garden

 

The Conservatory has a new naturalist, and she would love to meet you! With a tortoise in tow, your new naturalist will be spending time in the Sunken Garden, ready to answer your questions and take your suggestions. Stop by any time during the above hours for a little chat!

Local Author Spotlight: Katie Andrews Potter

Date: Saturday, June 29th, 2024

Time: 10am-12pm

Author Katie Andrews Potter will join us in the Gazebo Room of the Conservatory to share her latest book, “Wildflowers in Watercolor.” Stay awhile to enjoy a reading from the author, create some fun art, pick up one of her books, or to just meet and chat with this whimsical author. Hope to see you there!

Cultivating Minds Garden Series: Weeds and Wildflowers

Date: Saturday, July 6, 2024

Time: 12-1 PM

Fee: FREE|DROP-IN   Ages: All

Join us in the Children's Garden to learn about various gardening and nature topics you've always wanted to know more about. Learn how to grow new plants; make healthier gardens; learn how to support local wildlife; learn new hobbies; make healthy lifestyle choices and such much more! This is a drop-in demonstration program. Feel free to come any time between 11 am and 12 pm and stay for as long as you’d like (demonstration slated to last 10-15 at a time) and explore the Children’s Garden afterwards. Each program will have a small take home item. The program is free, but donations are appreciated (at the front desk).

One person's weeds are another person's wildflowers. Come learn how to identify common garden "weeds" and learn about their uses. Then you can decide for yourself if they are friend or foe!

Plants such as purslane, which many of us often find ourselves removing from our gardens, are actually very high in Omega-3 fatty acids, even more so than flax, which gets all the credit!

Herbal Harvest

Join the Herb Society of Central Indiana for all things herbs! Learn about harvesting, drying, storing and cooking with your garden harvest. Registration required.

Beekeeping Basics

Fee: FREE   Ages: All

Meet our beekeeper and learn about bee biology and why they are important to our gardens and our world. Experience first-hand how honey is harvested and taste a sample. Registration encouraged.

Learn about how to make salsa. Our naturalist will lead you through a very brief presentation on salsa making and you can sample the end results. Participants will get to take a sample of our salsa home or a few vegetables from the garden to make their own. There will also be recipes on salsa making. This program is free, but donations (made at the front desk) are always appreciated.
