Cultivating Minds Garden Series: Weeds and Wildflowers

Date: Saturday, July 6, 2024

Time: 12-1 PM

Fee: FREE|DROP-IN   Ages: All

Join us in the Children's Garden to learn about various gardening and nature topics you've always wanted to know more about. Learn how to grow new plants; make healthier gardens; learn how to support local wildlife; learn new hobbies; make healthy lifestyle choices and such much more! This is a drop-in demonstration program. Feel free to come any time between 11 am and 12 pm and stay for as long as you’d like (demonstration slated to last 10-15 at a time) and explore the Children’s Garden afterwards. Each program will have a small take home item. The program is free, but donations are appreciated (at the front desk).

One person's weeds are another person's wildflowers. Come learn how to identify common garden "weeds" and learn about their uses. Then you can decide for yourself if they are friend or foe!

Plants such as purslane, which many of us often find ourselves removing from our gardens, are actually very high in Omega-3 fatty acids, even more so than flax, which gets all the credit!

Stained Glass Mosaic Birdhouse

Date: Saturday, September 7th  /  12-3pm

AND Saturday, September 14th  /  12-2pm

Fee: $35 per person    Ages: 12+

PLEASE NOTE: This selection is a 2-day course. Please be sure that you're able to attend both Saturday, September 7th from 12pm-3pm and Saturday, September 14th from 12pm-2pm.

If you live at the intersection of nature and art, this course is certainly just for you!

Spend some time with us at the conservatory while learning how to make a stained glass mosaic using a wooden birdhouse as the substrate. By the second session, you'll be able to take your creation home!

Purchase for one person includes both sessions, all materials to make a birdhouse, one completed birdhouse to take home, and admission into the conservatory for both dates.

Session one (September 7th): In this first session, we'll gather all of our needed materials and begin brainstorming. By the time you leave, you'll have a birdhouse that is covered with beautiful stained glass and will be ready to grout.

Session two (September 14th): This session will include the finishing touches, including grouting your birdhouse. You will take it home with you at the conclusion of this session.

Children 12 and under are asked to make a house WITH adult supervision, as we will be using real stained glass for this project.
